Proclaiming the Kingdom

This was Jesus's core message. The Kingdom is not a physical place, but the active reign of God in the hearts and lives of people. He called everyone to "repent and believe in the gospel," turning away from sin to embrace God's rule of justice, peace, and love.
Jesus chose twelve men from humble backgrounds to be His closest followers. He taught them, trained them, and gave them authority to continue His mission. They represent the twelve tribes of Israel and form the foundation of the Church.
This is the most comprehensive summary of Jesus's moral and ethical teaching. It includes the Beatitudes ("Blessed are the poor in spirit..."), which outline the values of the Kingdom, and the Lord's Prayer, which teaches us how to relate to God as our Father.
When asked to summarize the entire law, Jesus gave two commandments that form the heart of Christian life: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind," and "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." All other teachings flow from these.
Signs of Divine Authority
Jesus's miracles were not magic tricks; they were powerful signs that the Kingdom of God was present in Him. They revealed His divine identity and His compassion for those who were suffering.
The miracles were a foretaste of the restored creation that God promises. By healing the sick, casting out demons, and controlling the forces of nature, Jesus demonstrated that evil, suffering, and chaos do not have the final word. God's power is greater.
Jesus showed profound mercy by healing those afflicted with illness, blindness, and paralysis. In healing the paralytic man, He not only restored his body but also declared, "Your sins are forgiven," demonstrating His authority to heal both body and soul.
In acts like calming the storm and walking on water, Jesus revealed His authority over the created world. These miracles showed His disciples that the one who made the universe was with them in the boat, and that they need not fear even the most chaotic forces of life.
The most profound miracles were those where Jesus restored life, such as the raising of Lazarus. This was the ultimate sign of His power over humanity's greatest enemy, death, and it foreshadowed His own resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith.
Stories with Heavenly Meaning
Jesus was a master storyteller. He used parables—simple, relatable stories from everyday life—to convey deep spiritual truths about the Kingdom of God and our relationship with Him.
Parables are more than just illustrations; they are invitations. They bypass intellectual defenses and speak directly to the heart, challenging listeners to see the world, themselves, and God in a new way. They both reveal truth to the open-hearted and conceal it from the proud.
Stories like the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan reveal the scandalous nature of God's mercy. They teach that God's love is unconditional, He actively seeks out the lost, and that our neighbor is anyone in need, regardless of social or religious boundaries.
Through parables like the Mustard Seed and the Sower, Jesus taught about the nature of the Kingdom. It starts small and grows to greatness. Its reception depends on the condition of our hearts, and it is of such immense value that it is worth giving up everything to possess.
Parables like the Talents or the Ten Virgins carry a note of urgency. They remind us that our time on earth is finite and we will be held accountable for how we use the gifts God has given us. They call us to live in a state of watchful readiness for the Lord's return.
The Work of Redemption
The Paschal Mystery is the climax of Jesus's life and the central event of human history. It is the fulfillment of His mission: His suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension, which together accomplish our salvation.
On the night before He died, Jesus instituted the Eucharist. He took bread and wine and declared them to be His Body and Blood, the "new covenant" given for the forgiveness of sins. This was both a memorial of His coming sacrifice and a way to remain present with His followers forever.
Jesus freely accepted His Passion—His agony, betrayal, and brutal death by crucifixion. This was not a defeat, but the ultimate act of love. On the cross, He took upon Himself the weight of all human sin, offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice to reconcile humanity to God.
On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. The empty tomb is the foundation of Christian faith. His resurrection is the definitive proof of His divinity and His victory over sin and death. It is the source of our hope that we, too, will share in eternal life.
Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into Heaven to take His place at the right hand of the Father. Before He left, He commissioned His apostles to "make disciples of all nations" and promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide and empower them in this mission.
The life of Jesus Christ is not just a historical account; it is an invitation. An invitation to follow Him, to embrace His teachings, and to find new life in the hope of His resurrection. His story continues in the hearts of all who believe.
