This is the story of how God lovingly revealed Himself and His plan for salvation through the written promises of Sacred Scripture and the living faith of Sacred Tradition. It shows how this entire narrative finds its ultimate meaning in the person of Jesus Christ, the final Word of God, whose complete revelation is now guarded and passed down by the Church.
The unfolding of God's love from the dawn of creation to the heart of the Church.
In the depths of His love, God chose not to remain a distant mystery. He initiated a divine dialogue with humanity, revealing not just a set of rules, but Himself and His loving plan to save us and call us into an intimate friendship with Him.
This divine story began to unfold at the dawn of creation and was carried forward through the voices of the patriarchs and prophets. God spoke to our ancestors in faith, gradually preparing humanity for the fullness of what He wished to reveal.
To ensure that His foundational promises would endure through time, God inspired human authors to record His covenant. This sacred writing, which we call the Old Testament, became the permanent, written history of God’s promise to send a Savior.
Yet, God's Word has always been more than a text; it is a living reality. This faith, which we call Sacred Tradition, was the vibrant lifeblood of our spiritual ancestors, passed down from person to person through worship, doctrine, and prayer.
This living Tradition is the very womb from which the New Testament was born. It is the living memory of the Church, the active faith that was practiced and understood for decades before the first words of the Gospels were ever written down.
For the Church, the written Word (Scripture) and this living faith (Tradition) are inseparable. They are like two streams flowing from the one wellspring of God's love, forming a single, sacred deposit of faith that contains the whole of His revelation.
Then, at the perfect moment in history, our story reached its undeniable climax. God’s revelation was no longer contained in words or promises alone, but became flesh in a Person. His own Son, Jesus Christ, walked among us as the ultimate self-disclosure of God.
In seeing Jesus, we see the Father. He is the complete and final Word, the very fullness of everything God wanted to communicate to humanity. Because He is the Father’s perfect Word, the age of public revelation is now closed; God has said everything in His Son.
Before ascending into Heaven, Christ entrusted this entire deposit of faith to His Apostles. He commissioned them to safeguard and proclaim the good news, establishing a living chain of authority to carry the truth into the future.
This sacred duty is carried on by the Apostles' successors—the Pope and the bishops—who form the Magisterium. They are given the unique authority to guard, protect, and authentically interpret God's revelation, ensuring that the one story of salvation is passed down faithfully to every generation.
The story of revelation is not a closed book, but a living reality in the heart of the Church. Through Scripture and Tradition, God continues to speak His Word of love to us today. May we have ears to hear and hearts open to receive it.
